They can also be tailored for individual local authority areas, helping councils and partnerships implement the road-safety priorities most relevant to their communities.
What the data shows
At 18, the casualty rate is nearly three times higher than at 15.
At age 15, before a young person can drive a car independently, the reported killed or seriously injured casualty rate across all road users is 37.4 per 100,000. At age 18, when many young people are beginning to drive independently, it is 100. The rate then remains elevated into the early twenties. This is why YRSE programmes begin before young people face these decisions alone.
