Road safety education that supports your wider curriculum.

DriverReady helps schools connect road safety with personal safety, health, peer influence and decision-making. Across six weekly core modules, students aged 14 to 17 practise skills they can use as passengers, future drivers and increasingly independent young people.

Curriculum connections

A clear place in your school’s learning.

DriverReady can sit within PSHE, Health Education, personal development, enrichment or wider pastoral provision.

The programme is mapped to relevant elements of the Department for Education’s statutory RSHE guidance, particularly secondary Health and wellbeing: Personal safety.

Personal safety and independence

Recognising hazards, understanding risk and planning for situations on the road. Students practise decisions they may increasingly need to make without an adult beside them.

Across core Modules 1–6

Peer influence and speaking up

Understanding how friends and passengers can influence a decision, practising what to say under pressure and planning a safer response.

Core Modules 1, 2, 4 and 6

Self-awareness and decision-making

Recognising emotions and impulses, considering consequences and other people, and developing practical strategies for making safer decisions.

Across core Modules 1–6

Health and wellbeing

Connecting sleep, fatigue, alcohol and drugs with judgement, attention and decisions made before and during a journey.

Core Modules 5 and 6

Transferable learning

Skills students can use beyond the road.

Recognising pressure, managing impulses, speaking up and planning ahead can reinforce your school’s wider work around personal safety, health and wellbeing.

Students are given the facts and explanations, explore practical strategies and rehearse their responses. They build plans they understand and choose for themselves, with teachers helping them reach informed conclusions.

From understanding to a plan

  • Recognise pressure
  • Manage impulses
  • Speak up
  • Plan ahead

Plans young people understand and choose for themselves.

A student perspective

Learning that does not stop at the roadside.

“I will put my phone out of the way when driving and I will use the BRAKE tools to support safety in all aspects of my life.”
Student feedback from an Australian classroom. DriverReady is adapted from the established BRAKE Driver Awareness programme.

Optional extensions

Extend the learning to the journeys your students make.

After all six core modules are completed, schools can choose either or both optional modules. They use the same lesson format and delivery platform.

Optional module

Regional and Rural

Apply the learning to narrow lanes, blind bends, farm traffic, pedestrians and level crossings, including why familiar rural roads can still catch drivers out.

Optional module

E-Mobility

Apply the learning to e-bikes, e-scooters, shared paths, speed, visibility and the law.

These modules extend DriverReady for ages 14 to 17. YRSE also offers a separate E-Mobility Education programme for ages 11 to 15 (opens in a new tab).
